Healthcare Software

About Us

Healthcare Software (HCS) provides clinical software solutions for large and small care facilities with a focus on medication management and patient referral.

By the end of 2009, HCS will have solutions implemented in at least 14 major Australian hospitals; 11 in South Australia and three in Tasmania, after being successful in two Government tenders for state wide implementations of Pharmacy Information Systems. Major facilities in which solutions will be implemented include:

  • Royal Adelaide Hospital
  • Queen Elizabeth Hospital
  • Flinders Medical Centre
  • The Women's and Children's Hospital
  • Repatriation General Hospital

The Tasmanian contract includes the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) and Launceston General Hospital (LGH) where early HCS solutions have been operating for a number of years.

Company Overview

Healthcare Software was incorporated in 2000 by John Elkerton, a practicing clinical pharmacist of 13 years in several Australian states and the UK. The early days were entirely focused on PharmCare clinical pharmacy software, which was developed to address the very serious issue of preventable medication error - it results in more deaths in Australia every year than road accidents.

The HCS team has a balance of health, IT and management personnel, to ensure all major stake holder groups are represented in direction decisions. The professional experience in health is a particular advantage as solutions are developed from the perspective of the user, whether it be a pharmacist, nurse, doctor, hospital manager or IT specialist.

Our Direction

The underlying objective of HCS is to reduce the likelihood of preventable medication error, thereby enhancing clinical outcomes for patients and client organisations.

Development will continue, as the company strives to provide an exhaustive clinical solution for an even broader range of care providers in Australia and overseas.
